ABOUT RICHMOND RUN CLUB

Our run club was created to bring the community of Richmond together through movement. What started as a simple idea — creating a local space where people could show up, move their bodies, and connect — has grown into something much bigger.

This isn’t just a run club. It’s a community.

We welcome everyone — seasoned runners training for their next race, beginners lacing up for the first time, families with strollers, grandparents walking strong, and even your four-legged training partners. If you show up, you belong here.

As a nonprofit organization, everything we do is rooted in serving our community. Every run is completely free — always has been, always will be. We move together, we support one another, and we gather afterward for drinks and snacks because connection matters just as much as the miles.

We’re here to build something lasting: a stronger, healthier, more connected Richmond.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Juan antelope canyon_edited.jpg

Raised in Richmond, Juan Cardenas has always carried pride for his hometown. He served as captain of the Richmond High School soccer team all four years, competed on the United States men's national under-17 soccer team, and made history as the first player from his school to earn a Division I scholarship to University of California, Berkeley.

After his competitive soccer career came to an end, his passion for fitness didn’t. Juan continued challenging himself through Spartan races, marathons and ultra-marathons — always pushing his limits. But while training, he realized something was missing: there wasn’t a local run club in Richmond. To find community, he had to travel to other cities.

Instead of waiting for something to exist, he built it himself — creating a space where his hometown could come together, move, and grow stronger side by side.
